Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Preview

June 3, 2023

Paramount Pictures upcoming cinematic release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will hit theaters August 2, 2023 with an all-new look of everyone’s favorite green pizza-loving heroes (and villains!).  And of course, with a new TMNT movie comes new toys.  Playmates Toys announced a world-wide release date of June 25 for the first opportunity to pick these up at your favorite retailer.  What can you expect to find in the toy aisle at the end of this month?  Grab a piece of za and let’s dive into Mutant Mayhem.

We’ll start off with the standard action figure line featuring the most of the main heroes and baddies you’ve grown to expect out of a TMNT series.  These action figures are 5″ tall with a totally radical expected retail price of 9.99 each.  The youthful turtles each include a non-mutated turtle, their iconic weapon(s), and the return of the weapon rack made famous from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures in the 80s/90s.  Yes, you’ll get to separate your accessories from the weapon rack which is sure to bring back memories from your childhood.  Another cool feature are the “clip & collect” file cards found on the back of each package.  Playmates Toys has a rich history of including these with many of their toy lines over the years but TMNT are possibly the most well-known.  Have your scissors ready!

Leonardo – The Leader

Raphael – The Angry One

Donatello – The Brains

Michelangelo – The Entertainer

Splinter is also included in the first wave of releases but no sign of April O’ Neil who we’ll assume is part of a second wave.  For the villain mutants we have an all-star lineup of Bebop and Rocksteady, Leatherhead, and Superfly.  We have a couple looks at these thanks to the cardback along with Playmates most recent promotional image.  These will have file cards and include weapon racks as well.  Other characters not shown but confirmed to be in the movie are Mondo Gecko, Baxter Stockman, Wingnut, Cynthia Utrom, Ray Fillet, and Genghis Frog.  Like April O’ Neil, we’ll assume the majority of these (if not all) will be in a future wave.  Also on the way are two 2-packs of baby turtles.  Playmates Toys knows we love baby turtles and they are confirmed as future releases.

It wouldn’t be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line without some totally tubular vehicles!  There will be at least three:  the beloved Turtle Van and two cycles.  The turtle van has an expected retail of 39.99 and can fit all four turtles and their master.  Like the various turtle van designs over the years, the side door pops open revealing a seat for a turtle to operate the functioning pizza launcher.  The pizza launching device features an on/off switch which points to the probability of it requiring batteries and being automated.

The two cycles in our preview each include another turtle action figure with a helmet.  Safety first kids!  Raphael comes with the Battle Cycle which features a trash can that is able to be moved from the back to the side to allow another turtle to rid along.  Leonardo is included with the Ninja Kick Cycle.  It features a ninja star launcher mounted on the front and a pizza lever on the back.  Pulling the pizza lever launches Leo into action from side to side kicking any evil mutants along the way.

And last but definitely not least for the main action figure line is a Sewer Lair playset.  We do not have many details on this beyond it’s 24″ wide and on the way.  Next up is a look at Ninja Shouts: 5 1/2″ action figures of the four turtles with built-in phrases from the movie along with spring-loaded arms and legs.  The phrases are activated by moving the arms or legs (varies from figure to figure) and holding the arm/leg after activation extends the sound effect.  Be sure to check the back of the packaging shown below to see where each turtle’s activation points are located.

We’ll wrap up this preview in a big way.  The turtles will also have 12″ releases with each including their signature weapons.  Here’s a look at two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Giants – Leonardo and Raphael.
